MY CREATIVE PROCESS

I learned a lot about myself and my own creative process while completing this project. This project pushed in various ways including expanding my research, planning, time management, and design skills. My creative process began with brainstorming things that were important to me. At the time, I was really caught up in stress and wanted a reminder to be present in the moment. This is where my inspiration came from. I was inspired to create posters partially because I wanted to push myself to create digital art, a medium I had not explored, and also partially because of my interest in marketing and design. All of this combined led me to my final product. Through the process I learned that Time management is my biggest obstacle when completing a long-term project like this capstone. This is something we worked on a long in class. I planned and adjusted a schedule for myself, but in general it was difficult for me to stick to. I continued to get frustrated with myself until I did some reflecting and realized that my creative process cannot exactly be scheduled. Instead of having specific days that I need to have things completed by, I need to give myself time frames to work and make progress on the project. This is due to the fact that I cannot always be creative and produce something I am proud of, I have to be in the right mindset. If I am not feeling excited about doing something creative, it is almost unbearable to do it. But, on the contrary, if I feel like I want to be creative in the moment, I can churn out hours of productivity very quickly. While this is not a super practical way to work, I have learned how to work with myself in this mindset and will be able to use this moving forward. For example, I will chose when to write a paper or paint a painting depending on my mindset rather than a schedule. To combat this while creating my project, I created an inspiration board (pictured above) and continued to look back at it and add to it to develop ideas and get inspired to work on my posters. This was a really helpful inspiration.
